Red Herring’s annual “100” list of top private companies has a bit of Atlanta flavor this year.

Five Atlanta firms are on the list, and each has been invited to participate in Red Herring’s Spring Conference May 18-20 in Monterey, CA.

The companies are:

  • VistaScape
  • Air2Web
  • JBoss
  • Xcellenet
  • CipherTrust
  • Alex Vieux, publisher of Red Herring, pointed out that the magazine’s editorial staff reviewed more than 600 privately held companies before picking a final 100.

“The Red Herring 100 is our annual list of the most promising private companies,” he said. “Like Google, eBay and other previous Red Herring 100 alumni, these 100 have the potential to become the next titans of technology.”

The company has picked its top 100 since 1996.
