Nortel will help Telenet, the cable television provider in Belgium, implement a voice over Internet protocol network, Nortel said Thursday morning.

The deal is the latest in a series of VOIP-related deals for Nortel (NYSE: NT). According to Synergy research Group and In-Stat/MDR, Nortel ranked first in the number of VoIP “ports” shipped and in global Softswitch revenue.

Nortel’s VoIP customers include Cox Communications, Sprint, MCI, TeleCable, Hong Kong Broadband Network, Verizon Communications, Bell Canada, Cable & Wireless Cayman Islands, China Netcom and China Railcom.
