Red Hat says several universities and students worldwide have purchased more than 13,000 Red Hat Academic Solutions subscriptions and site licenses.

In December 2003, Raleigh-based Red Hat announced new Linux solutions for servers and clients in the education and academic community to help institutions and students respond to rising educational costs.

One of the latest institutions to do so is Imperial College of London, which purchased Red Hat Enterprise Linux subscriptions for students and faculty members. It also deployed multiple servers on Red Hat Enterprise Linux for college administration and infrastructure.

Vanderbilt University in Nashville also has chosen to implement Red Hat Enterprise Linux and says it is already recognizing lower cost of ownership and increased productivity.
