WindChannel Communications is part of an innovative broadband trial that was launched recently by Progress Energy.

Progress is demonstrating broadband over power line capabilities, working in three neighborhoods in Wake County.

WindChannel is providing high-speed wireless Internet connectivity and data transfer services for the trial.

“WindChannel was able to provide a connectivity solution in weeks, not months”, said Matt Oja, director of emerging technologies at Progress Energy, in a statement.

WindChannel deployed a point-to-multipoint link between the Internet Service Provider involved in the trial and power lines where the Internet signal is then delivered to homes.

“Our wireless broadband solution makes sense in the telecommunications carrier’s carrier space.” said Jim Crawford, vice president of business development at WindChannel. “In less than 30 days, our network was delivering robust IP connectivity to each of the Progress Energy BPL test neighborhoods.”
