Fred Smith, chairman, president and CEO of FedEx, will speak March 25 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School as part of the Dean’s Speaker Series.
The lecture series, funded in part by the Archie K. Davis Lectureship Fund, brings key movers and shakers to the business school for talks that are free and open to the community. Smith will speak in the Maurice J. Koury Auditorium at 5:30 PM.
FedEx, which is based in Memphis, is planning to open a major distribution center by 2009 at Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro. The shipping company also recently announced its acquisition of Kinkos for $2.4 billion.
“FedEx and Kinko’s share a similar heritage, culture and commitment to superior service, and together we will give our customers even greater access to the global marketplace,” Smith said in a statement. “This combination will allow us to increase access to FedEx shipping services and capitalize on key business trends.”
With approximately 219,000 employees and independent contractors worldwide, FedEx handles more than 5 million shipments every day in 214 countries.
