Paul Meade and Keith Symmers, who were vice presidents at consulting and information firm Best Practices LLC, have formed their own venture.

The two teamed up to start Clear Point Strategies, a strategic development and operational management consulting firm. They said their focus will be on the healthcare, aerospace and defense industries.

“Many industries are experiencing dramatic changes driven by the need to manage, understand and use information,” Meade said in a statement. “The pharmaceutical industry, for example, will undergo a significant transformation over the next decade that will demand carefully planned strategies.”

Meade has more than 25 years of experience in healthcare, including marketing, business planning and research at Merck and GlaxoSmithKline. He received a Master of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Guelph in Canada, and undergraduate degree from Acadia University. His last position at GSK was as worldwide commercial director for predictive medicine,

“We recognize that each industry has its own unique challenges to face,” added Symmers. “We are founded on the principle that companies deserve to have consultants who have in-depth industry knowledge and experience.”

Symmers is a U.S. Navy veteran and has led numerous strategic and operational projects in aerospace, defense, healthcare, high tech, utility, and manufacturing. He earned an MBA at Harvard and a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Virginia. While in the Navy, Symmers oversaw two nuclear power reactors aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise.

Lisa Smith, an award-winning journalist, is a research specialist with the firm.
