Raindrop Geomagic and Faro Technologies are working on an integrated system that will measure physical objects and automatically transform them into digital models for design, manufacturing, analysis and inspection.

The system will have a single user interface that drives the Faro ScanArm, a seven-axis measurement device that includes an integrated laser scanner, and Geomagic software to process large scan data.

It will improve applications such as rapid design, custom manufacturing on demand, engineering analysis, computer-aided inspection, and digital inventory of legacy parts, the companies say.

Customers will receive support and product updates from Faro, which is located in Lake Mary, FL. Its integrated system with Geomagic is expected to be available in the first quarter of 2004.
