MetroPCS recently signed up its one millionth customer, as it marks two years of providing wireless phone service.

Based in Dallas, MetroPCS provides unlimited anytime local and long distance wireless service for one flat monthly rate with no contract in the Atlanta area, and other metropolitan markets including Miami, San Francisco and Sacramento.

“We give our customers what they want, when they want it…a flat rate plan with unlimited, anytime use that allows them to pay by the month, not by the minute,” said Roger Linquist, founder and chief executive officer of MetroPCS. “We allow people to call whenever they want and talk as long as they want, without worrying about extra charges on their bill. And if that weren’t important to consumers, we wouldn’t be celebrating our one millionth sign-up in only 24 months.”

To thank its loyal customers, MetroPCS says it will give a free year of service to one subscriber in each of its markets with the longest, uninterrupted service.

MetroPCS built its own 3G network from the ground up, completing the build-out in 2002 utilizing Lucent Technologies equipment. The all-digital network uses third generation infrastructure and handsets.

“We’ve built a network based on some of the most innovative technology available,” added Linquist. “This means that MetroPCS will be able to continue providing the type of unlimited service consumers have come to demand for many years to come.”
