Mark Schmidt, a former IBM executive, is the new president of Cyberlux Corporation, a developer and manufacturer of semiconductor diodal lighting products.

Schmidt, an engineering graduate from N.C. State with an MBA from Duke, has more than 15 years of experience in consumer marketing and business management. He was promoted to the president’s position from executive vice president and chief operating officer. He joined Cyberlux in May of last year.

Donald Evans remains the chairman and chief executive officer of the company, which was founded in May of 2000. Cyberlux is publicly traded under the symbol CYBL.

The company also announced that it is consolidating its administrative operations from four different cities to offices at 4625 Creekstone Drive in RTP.

Cyberlux has perfected technology that enables its diodal lighting elements to operate with only 10 percent of the electricity required for incandescent lighting. The company also has developed a portable “Home Safety Light” product and a patent-pending power outage sensor.

Cyberlux (“cyber” for new technology, “lux” the Latin word for light) raised $750,000 in a stock offering earlier this month.
