Nortel Networks has been selected by Cable & Wireless to provide a next generation network on the Cayman Islands.
Nortel says the network will converge existing voice, data and Internet services onto one advanced packet infrastructure to help drive increased network efficiency and reduced network costs on the Caymans.
Under an agreement estimated at $17 million over two years, Nortel will deploy products from its Succession voice over IP and Multimedia Communications portfolios, as well as professional services.
The deployment will allow Cable & Wireless to provide customers in the Cayman Islands with advanced multimedia services like video calling.
Shares of Nortel (TSX: NT), which was upgraded Tuesday by Soundview Technology from “Neutral” to “Outperform,” were up 19 cents to $6.13 in early trading, approaching its 52-week high of $6.50 on the Toronto stock market.
