The National Weather Service will be using IBM eServers as part of an effort to improve forecasts for severe weather, IBM said Tuesday.

“The new technology includes IBM eServer IntelliStation and IBM eServer xSeries systems and is expected to significantly increase the National Weather Service’s ability to rapidly deliver real-time data to meteorologists and hydrologists around the United States,” IBM said in a statement.

The National Weather Service said new data delivery and technological improvements has increased processing speed by 400 percent.
