Verso Technologies has released a stand-alone, peer-to-peer (P2P) configuration of its NetSpective content filtering appliance.

The offering enables enterprises to filter P2P file sharing, instant messaging, and streaming media traffic, regardless of whether they have an existing URL filter in their network.

NetSpective’s P2P filtering helps enterprises facilitate compliance with regulations such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) and the proposed Government Internet Security Act.

Existing NetSpective users can add P2P filtering functionality by simply unlocking a software key. Similarly, once NetSpective’s P2P configuration has been implemented, a software key can be used to add additional features such as URL filtering and advanced reporting.

“We established ourselves as a leader in the content filtering industry when were among the first to announce our peer-to-peer filtering capabilities in January of this year,” said Steve Odom, Verso’s chairman and chief executive officer. “We’re happy to be leading the market once again, this time with a packaging solution that offers protection against the expense and liability associated with high risk Internet traffic–.”
