Salix Pharmaceuticals is the newest member of the Nasdaq Biotechnology Index.
The Raleigh-based pharmaceutical firm (Nasdaq: SLXP) met a series of requirements, such as market value and average daily share volume, to be listed.
Salix was trading at $18.95 in late afternoon trading.
