Cisco Systems says it has extended functionality of its VPN 3000 Series Concentrators with support for new Secure Socket Layer (SSL) Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).

The new capability enables customers to remotely access applications from a standard web browser from virtually any client device. The addition concurrently supports both SSL and IP Security Protocol (IPsec) VPNs on the Cisco VPN 3000 Series Concentrators at no additional cost to customers.

Cisco also is introducing WebVPN, an SSL VPN solution that will be integrated with the VPN 3000 Series Concentrator in software version 4.1. With no client software required to be installed or maintained on the remote device, WebVPN enables users to gain a secure connection from any browser-based device, such as a PC located at a client’s premises.

The combination of WebVPN and the client-based IPsec VPN solution of the Cisco VPN 3000 provides deployment flexibility and ease of management for meeting the requirements of remote application access, the company says.
