Mi-Co has joined Health Level Seven (HL7) as an organizational member to work on establishing and enhancing standards for the exchange, integration, sharing, and retrieval of electronic health information.
“With Mi-Co’s growing list of health care customers, it is imperative that we participate in the leading organizations in this industry segment and Health Level Seven is certainly a key one for us,” said Greg Clary, chief technology officer at Mi-Co.
Clary said that Chris DiPierro, HL7 project director for Mi-Co in RTP, will be leading the company’s efforts in this area.
“As a standards developing organization, part of HL7’s goal is to create flexible, cost effective approaches for interoperability between healthcare information systems,” said DiPierro. “This maps directly to our goals at Mi-Co, to provide cost effective, enterprise solutions to our customers that enhance current data capture and information sharing solutions.”
Currently, Mi-Co has its HL7 specifications in review and plans to have its next set of revisions available in the first quarter of 2004.
Additionally, DiPierro says Mi-Co is “very excited” about the HL7 educational summit that is being held in Las Vegas in early November.
