CARY,Clarkston Consulting will utilize encryption technology from Research Triangle Software as part of an effort to improve security for its data, the companies said Monday.

RTS has developed CryptoStick and other applications that encrypt data on devices that resemble cigarette lighters. The CryptoSticks come with CryptoBuddy software and P.I. Protector, a software program that permits private Internet browsing, mobile email and file synchronization.

“We want to ensure that our consultants have the ease of portability without compromising the nature of the confidential information that they carry,” said Tom Finegan, the chief executive officer of Clarkston. “With the CryptoStick, security is a non-issue.”
