The ninth annual Conference for Learning Organizations, a gathering that brings together businesses, schools, health care and governmental agencies from across the region, will be held on Oct. 22.

This year’s theme is “Excelling in Business: Winning Through People.”

Speakers include Michael Abrashoff, Mary Beth O’Neill and Joseph Grenny, who will focus on the tools, strategies, and processes necessary to lead a winning organization.

Abrashoff, author of “It’s Your Ship,” was commander of the USS Benfold with crew of 310. He used grassroots leadership to increase retention rates from 28 percent to 100 percent, reduce operating expenditures and improve readiness.

O’Neill uses coaching to create cultures of high performance, change and learning. Her perspective and advice is backed by a specific four-phase methodology.

Grenny is co-author of “Crucial Conversations: Tools for Talking when Stakes are High.” He has consulted with Lockheed Martin, AT&T and IBM.

The Conference for Learning Organizations will take place at the Civic Center and Carolina Theatre in Durham.
