Telecom Americas, a consortium of wireless service providers in Brazil, have chosen Tekelec to provide a global system for mobile communications — known as GSM — migration and network monitoring.

The firms, which have some 6.5 million customers, will use Tekelec’s Eagle 5 Signaling Application System. The Eagle 5 supports multi-protocol signaling and supports such features as number portability and integrated services.

According to Tekelec, the new GSM architecture will ease network administration and also help the cellular companies prepare to install advanced 3G multimedia networks.
