REDMOND,AT&T Wireless has selected Nortel and Ericsson to provide the infrastructure for its upgraded 3G network.

AT&T said its network is expected to be the first to support W-CDMA (wideband code division multiple band access) standard and thus be able to support high-speed virtual private network, audio and video services. Mobile commerce and location-based services also will be offered.

The company plans to have the W-CDMA service available in four markets by the end of 2004.
