RALEIGH … Life sciences communications company BioScience Learning (BSL) has named the founding members of its Scientific and Medical Advisory Board.

“Every member of our advisory board brings unique knowledge to our company, which will enable BSL to deliver scientifically accurate content to a broad range of audiences,” Chief Executive Larry V. Laws said in a statement. “The members of our advisory board share our vision of a future where patients, physicians and life science professionals have compelling ways to learn new life science or medical topics.”

The board includes Chairman Philippe Arnaud, a genetics and immunology professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Medical University of South Carolina; Michael G. Schmidt, an MUSC professor who specializes in genetics and molecular biology; Maria Fernanda Lopes-Virella, an MUSC professor of endocrinology, diabetes and genetics; Theiry Rene Henri Bacro, an associate professor in MUSC’s Department of Rehabilitation Sciences; and Magali J. Fontaine, an assistant professor in the Department of Pathology at MUSC.

Also on the board are Michael Murphy, president and CEO of Gentris, a Morrisville, N.C.-based pharmacogenomics firm; and Suzanne J. Zorn, a rheumatologist at the Arthritis, Rheumatology & Osteoporosis Center of North Carolina.
