FairPoint Communications, which operates a number of local telephone companies around the US, has moved to acquire Berkshire Telephone and its subsidiary, Berkshire Cable, of Kinderhook, NY.
FairPoint owns 29 rural local exchange carriers across 18 states with 243,000 access lines.
Berkshire services five New York communities with 6,700 access lines.
