Athenix, a biotechnology firm focused on genetic research for agricultural and chemical companies, has struck a deal with Mertec LLC to explore enhancement of soybeans.
Mertec is a breeder and supplier of soybean seed.
Athenix also announced it had acquired the commercial license for what it described as “certain important enabling technologies: from Stine Biotechnology. Stine is a subsidiary of Midwest Oilseeds. Terms were not disclosed.
Athenix and Mertec said they would work together to incorporate newly developed traits from Athenix into varieties of soybeans developed by Mertec.
