The Triangle Business Journal reported today that BTI is likely to move out of Raleigh as a merger between it and ITC DeltaCom, which is based in Georgia, complete a merger.

The merger is being orchestrated by investment firm Welsh Carson Anderson & Stowe, which owns most of BTIs’ stock and nearly half of publicly traded ITC DeltaCom. ITC DeltaCom recently emerged from bankruptcy.

Although a spokesman for BTI declined to comment, The Business Journal cited sources as saying upper level BTI management will lose its jobs. BTI maintains its headquarters in North Raleigh and employs some 900 people.
