ATLANTA … Network security firm Lancope is co-sponsoring the Network World Technology Tour “Security: Protecting Your Enterprise and Its Assets.”

The free one-day security event is offered in four cities this month and features Joel Snyder, a Ph.D. in management information systems, senior partner of Opus One and internationally recognized expert in the area of telecommunications and networks, who will show how to select and implement the most effective and efficient network tools.

Snyder and a team of top security providers will share the following best practices with participants: conducting vulnerability assessments; embedding security in handhelds, laptops and other mobile devices; deploying intrusion detection and tools; evaluating the right VPN; ensuring end-to-end security for broadband and wireless users; developing and testing on-site and off-site disaster recovery/backup plans; and improving network protection with common tools such as firewalls and virus scanners.

“Today’s organizations face an unlimited range of internal and external security threats,” Lancope President and Chief Executive Harland LaVigne said in a statement. “Despite industry estimates that up to 70 percent of security breaches are internal, past security initiatives have mainly focused on securing the perimeter. The open and dynamic nature of current enterprise networks demands innovative solutions that protect critical digital assets and assure continuous network availability.”

Other co-sponsors of the seminar series are Foundry Networks, Hewlett Packard’s ProCurve Networking group, IBM and VeriSign.

The seminars will be held Tuesday in Boston, Thursday in Washington, D.C., May 27 in Richardson, Texas, and May 29 in San Jose, Calif. Lancope will present “What is Advanced Threat Protection?” at 9:50 a.m. each day.
