RALEIGH … Remember the good ol’ days of two weeks ago when the Southeast had two venture deals to crow about. Well, those days appear to be gone, as just one funding was announced last week.
TranS1, a medical device manufacturer in Wilmington, N.C., claimed the only deal of the week when it obtained a $12 million second round. Georgia once again posted no deals, returning to the weekly shut-out column where it has resided much of the past two months.
The TranS1 deal brings the Carolinas and Georgia to 30 for the year, totaling $247 million. That compares with more than $300 million in 43 deals at this point a year ago.
