OPTIC CCA, a medical device manufacturer based in Atlanta, has seen a surge in demand for one of its devices as a result of the SARS outbreak.
OPTIC CCA says some $700,000 in orders were placed in one week recently by China for the OPTI Critical Care Analyzer. The blood gas analyzer can determine whether a SARS patient is likely to experience respiratory distress that could be fatal.
The device, about the size of a briefcase and portable, is made in Atlanta.
OPTIC CCA recently was acquired by Osmetech plc, which is based in Great Britain.
