Morris, Manning & Martin will host a roundtable on new lawyer regulations as stipulated by the Sarbanes-Oxley Acot on May 20. The discussion will be from noon to 1 PM.
Jeff Schulte of MMM will serve as moderator.
“Sarbanes-Oxley, which was intended to put a lid on corporate misconduct, also sets requirements for lawyers who practice before the Securities and Exchange Commission,” Schulte said in a statement. “This can even include some attorneys who may not have been aware that the rules reach them. These rules require lawyers-who are accustomed to observing a duty of client confidentiality-to report material violations of securities laws. This presents a difficult situation, and it is critical that general counsels and other corporate attorneys understand their new obligations.”
