With data demand increasing 15 percent over the previous quarter, US LEC reported a 36 percent increase in revenues for the first quarter over 2002 figures.

Revenues hit $73 million, up 36 percent. The company reported a loss of $8.5 million, or 31 cents per share. A year ago, US LEC reported a $15.2 million loss.

US LEC reported an $11 million loss in the fourth quarter of 2002.

US LEC (Nasdaq: CLEC) stock was trading down 10 cents, at $4.95, in midday trading.

Some 44 percent of US LEC’s 10,988 customers also now contract with the telecommunications provider for data services. The company said data sales make up 13 percent of its revenues.
