BEAVERTON,The Open Source Development Lab, an advocacy group formed to drive adoption of Linux and supported by a host of high-profile sponsors, has named Stuart Cohen as its chief executive officer.

Among its backers are Red Hat, IBM, Ericsson, Cisco and Alcatel.

OSDL provides engineering and technical assistance to Linux developers and operates data centers in the Japan and the United States.

Cohen was vice president of marketing and business development at RadiSys Corporation. He also was vice president of worldwide marketing at InFocus Corporation and worked 17 years for IBM.

“Stuart understands the importance and promise of Linux to enterprise customers, open source developers and our sponsors at OSDL” said Ross Mauri, president of the OSDL. He is vice president of development at IBM Systems Group.
