FairPoint Communications, which operates a number of community phone companies in several states, has agreed to pay $31,150,000 for Community Service Telephone in Winthrop, Maine.

The firm services some 12,000 residential and business customers in and around Augusta and Lewiston/Auburn.

FairPoint already owns six rural local exchange carriers in that area.

Community Service previously had accepted a buyout bid of $28.5 million from Country Road Communications, but FairPoint made an unsolicited, higher offer on April 10.
