WINSTON-DataChambers, promising to be an “electronic Alcatraz” for its clients’ data needs, officially opened for business this week in a former AT&T facility.

The privately held company says it already has 20 customers and employs 18 people.

DataChambers is based in a 44,000 square foot subterranean space, has redundant transformers, its own power plant, and emergency generators.

DataChambers also has more than 80,000 square feet of available office space.

Lawrence Boening, president and chief operating officer of the company, is a former executive at KMC Telecom where he served as director of field data services.
