Scientific Atlanta, responding to what it says is increasing demand for high-definition digital programming, unveiled a new set-top box for cable TV providers on Monday.
The Atlanta Explorer 3250HD box includes nearly 30 percent faster processing time and also enables customers to “stretch” as well as zoom images to fit the wider HD TV set format. The stretch ability will eliminate the black bars above and below content designed for the HD format when shown on a standard set, the company said.
The box also will allow customers to record in standard format on VHS even while watching in HD format.
