MetaMetrics, which has developed a sophisticated means of measuring reading comprehension through computer-based tests and digital analysis of more than 30,000 books, has signed a two-year contract renewal with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
More than 500,000 NC students grades 3-8 take tests based on MetaMetrics’ Lexile framework as part of end of grade exams. Each student’s comprehension is measured by the tests. Questions are based on passages from the Lexile library of texts. There is no subjective evaluation.
Students can be matched to appropriate reading levels of the more than 30,000 books that have received Lexile measures based on their test results.
NCDPI has contracted with MetaMetrics since 1999. The company was founded by Jack Stenner and Malbert Smith, two RTP-based entrepreneurs.
