Cisco Systems, best known for providing the traffic control of the Internet, is preparing to move into the networking of high-tech machinery on industrial plant floors.
CNET, quoting Cisco officials, said the company would announce Monday the release of industrial grade Catalyst 2955 switches which have bee toughened up to operate in an industrial environment.
According to CNET, the switches even were put into paint-shaking machines to see if they could still function. Cisco said it envisioned the industrial plant surface as an emerging market since so many plants are adding high-tech robotic and other automated devices that needed to be networked to the assembly process.
