BellSouth is making available to enterprise and wholesale customers an expanded variety of high-speed bandwidth services through its new Wavelength service.
The product line is the first optical solution based on Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology offered by BellSouth. DWDM splits light transmission paths over each strand of fiber and provides data service at up to 2.5 gigabits per second.
BellSouth said the point-to-point delivery capability of the DWDM services allows delivery of data over the “last mile” to a customer premises at a variety of speeds. The company said DWDM provides a cost-effective solution for such uses as linking storage networks, data centers, mainframes and high bandwidth-demand locations.
