UPS is using wireless software from Air2Web to enable customers to track packages in nine Asia Pacific countries using a new short message service (SMS) tracking system.

Air2Web has provided the service to UPS in the United States since 2000.

Now, customers in Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Australia and India can use local phone numbers to track packages by using SMS-enabled phones, Air2Web said in a statement. Because it is a two-way system, the Air2Web product can be used to alert customers as well, the company said.
