Alston & Bird LLP has added four new associates at its Raleigh office in a move designed to beef up its intellectual property and capital market groups, the firm announced Thursday.

Edward Ergenzinger Jr., PhD, was added to the firm’s biotechnology group. He received a BA in biology and psychology, his PhD in neuroscience and his law degree all from Wake Forest University. He was co-founder of an intellectual property law journal at the university and received an American Bar Association/Bureau of National Affairs Award for Excellence in the study of IP law.

Ryan Cagle will focus on chemical and pharmaceutical patents. He received a BS in chemistry from Northeastern State University and his law degree from the University of Tulsa.

Added to the capital markets group were Michael O’Sullivan and Damon McLean. O’Sullivan is a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill’s law school. He also is a UNC journalism school graduate. McLean is a graduate of Duke Law School and has a Masters in fine arts from Duke. He also received a BA in psychology from Princeton University.
