The number of people paying bills online in January 2003 will be double the total of a year earlier, according to a new survey by Bank of America.

BoA says more than 1.8 million people will use the Net for bill payments in January, up from 900,000 in 2002.

The number of bills they pay will double as well, to 11 million, and payments will top $3 billion, BoA says.

BoA cites several reasons for the trend, including lower costs, greater consumer confidence in online transactions, and an easier process.
