Bob Young, one of the founders of Red Hat, sold exactly 3 million shares of Red Hat stock on Dec. 20.

According to documents reported on the Internet, Young sold the shares in two blocks (1,787,961 and 1,212,039) at a per share price of $5.60.

The sale brought Young nearly $17 million.

Earlier that week, Young announced he was stopping a series of programmed trades due to concerns expressed by other Red Hat investors. On Dec. 11, 12, 13, 16, 17, 18 and 19, Young sold between 6,862 and 10,827 shares.

Those sales came on the heels of more than 760,000 shares sold in October by Young and his family.

Frank Batten, Jr., one of Red Hat’s early investors, sold 2 million shares on Nov. 27, for $13.5 million and recently sold four other blocks of shares totaling more than 400,000 shares.
