Serologicals (Nasdaq: SERO) says it will build a $28 million plant in Lawrence, KS, to manufacture its EX-CYTE serum-free cell culture supplement for use in the biotechnology industry.
Serologicals expects to break ground on the project as early as the first quarter and complete the project in the first half of 2004. The project will create about 40 jobs.
Out of 30 possible cities in the Midwest, Serologicals says it picked Lawrence. The Atlanta-based company cited Lawrence’s bioscience assets, commitment to life sciences and interest in collaborating with Serologicals.
The project’s site is on 12.5 acres in East Hills Business Park in the southeastern part of Lawrence, where the University of Kansas is located. Plans call for one 45,000-square-foot building initially.
