Overture Networks, which recently landed $15 million in venture capital, continues to expand as it hires new employees and extends its reach.

In the last two weeks, Overture has named Aimee Ridgway as its marketing communications manager and Jay Bowker as vice president of worldwide sales.

Ridgway, who previously worked in similar roles for AppGate and Nortel in RTP, says Overture now has 18 employees.

“We’re in a position of growth,” Ridgway says of Overture, “and are expanding.”

Overture raised $15 million in September from Morganthaler Ventures of Menlo Park, CA. It was the company’s second round since its founding two years ago, and included Intersouth Partners of Durham and Atlanta-based Armada Ventures.

“That gives us, conservatively, a two-year runway,” Bowker says of the latest funding, “and if we meet our objectives, we won’t need anymore.”

Bowker was hired from Centerpoint, where he was VP of global sales and services for the wireless solutions provider. He also was director of sales for Alidian Networks and VINA Technologies.

“The management team brought me on board to expand the name of Overture in the carrier world, build the sales team and drive revenues,” Bowker says. “Right now, we’re looking at a handful of people to hire and sprinkle throughout the U.S., as revenue and customers dictate.”

Overture, which develops of a class of multi-service products that enable carriers to deliver Ethernet and traditional voice/data services over metro networks, recently finished a new product that is ready to hit the marketplace.

“Our engineering team has done a good job of getting the product ready and prepped,” Bowker explains. “Our product is ready for prime time.”
