Summus Inc. has reported a net loss of $2.3 million, or 5 cents per share, for the third quarter, compared to a loss of $3.6 million, or 10 cents per share, in the same period a year ago.

Total revenue decreased $80,844 to $36,435 in the three months ended Sept. 30, 2002, a decrease of 68.9 percent from the corresponding period of the prior year. Summus says the decrease in revenues resulted from a shift in the company’s focus during 2002.

During third quarter, Summus adds that all of the company’s resources were dedicated to the development of solutions for the mobile and wireless markets.

Consequently, Summus says it did not perform any government contract services. It says the majority of revenues earned during the three-month period ended Sept. 30, 2001 resulted from performing governmental contract services.

Raleigh-based Summus offers products and services designed to enable wireless users to access multimedia services faster and on a wider range of mobile devices.
