MEBANE,Hit in part by write-offs in an investment and for bad debts fro MCI WorldCom and Global Crossing, Madison River Communications reported a net loss of $14.4 million in the third quarter.

The telecommunications firm, which includes local and integrated communications division, reported revenues of $46.8 million — the same as in 2001.

Madison River wrote off a $4.5 million loss in US Unwired. It also reported bad debt charges of $1.1 million from WorldCom and $400,000 from Global Crossing.
