Catalyst magazine has named Web hosting company Interland (Nasdaq: INLD) as one of five winners in its Second Annual Catalyst Awards.

In an awards ceremony held at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre, Interland was awarded the 2002 “Deal of the Year” award. The award is given annually to a company whose merger, acquisition, partnership, public stock offering or round of funding is significant to the company and Atlanta business.

According to George Mirgorod, publisher of Catalyst magazine, five other Atlanta companies were recognized. They were Northwestern Mutual Financial Network and The TriVeritas Group for “Built to Last,” Lewis Massey at SciTrek for “Agent of Change” and Crisis Management International for the “Catalyst of the Year” award.

Interland was recognized as “Deal of the Year” for its merger with Micron Electronics, as well as subsequent acquisitions that have vaulted the company to the top position in the hosting industry. The company is featured in the magazine’s October issue.

“When selecting the ‘Deal of the Year’ winner, we look for a deal that strikes a good balance between out-of-the-box thinking and sound business decisions. Interland’s work this year embodies both,” Mirgorod said in a statement. “We also believe that Interland’s decision to locate its headquarters in Atlanta is a resounding endorsement of this region’s continuing strength as a high-tech center.”

When the Micron-Interland merger closed on Aug. 6, 2001, the company retained the Interland name and moved its corporate headquarters from Idaho to Atlanta. In the months that followed, the company integrated and consolidated the two entities, moving approximately 85 employees to Atlanta from other locations. In the year since the merger closed, Interland completed five more acquisitions.

“Interland is honored to be recognized by Catalyst magazine,” Chairman and Chief Executive Joel J. Kocher said in a statement, “especially because we share the same audience … small and medium business leaders … who look to both Catalyst and Interland to help them grow their businesses. We’ve worked hard in the past year to become the biggest web host serving that market, and now we are focused on being the best, setting new standards for service and delivering more value to our customers.”
