WINSTON-PointDx says it has signed an agreement with Siemens to license a number of patents related to virtual endoscopy.

According to PointDx, virtual endoscopy is a technique that uses software to generate images of the inside of human organs such as the colon and vascular structures. Financial terms of the deal with Siemens were not disclosed.

Founded in 1999, PointDx is a medical software and IT company based in Winston-Salem. It produces integrated image analysis and structured reporting software for the field of diagnostic radiology.

Although PointDx originated in the virtual endoscopy arena, the company says it is now focused on bridging the gap between advanced 3D medical visualization and the electronic medical record. PointDx’s flagship product, REX, uses a patent-pending workflow scheme to rapidly construct and distribute Web-based, multimedia radiology reports.
