WILMINGTON,PPD Inc. (Nasdaq: PPDI) says that Marye Anne Fox, chancellor at N.C. State University in Raleigh, has joined its board of directors.

Fox currently serves on President George Bush’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. She also serves on the science engineering and public policy committee of the National Research Council, is co-chair of the National Academy of Sciences’ Council of Government-University-Industry Research Roundtable and is president of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society

“With her impressive credentials and leadership in science and technology, Dr. Fox will be an asset to PPD and further reinforce the strength of our board,” Fred Eshelman, chief executive officer of PPD, said in a statement. “We look forward to gaining the value of her strategic insight and guidance.”

Prior to joining N.C. State in 1998, Fox held the Waggoner Regents chair in chemistry and was vice president for research at the University of Texas (UT) at Austin, where she had served for 22 years. She received a bachelor of science in chemistry from Notre Dame College and a doctorate in chemistry from Dartmouth College. After a postdoctoral appointment at the University of Maryland, she joined UT in 1976.
