MedTree.com, a year-old medical-related portal that enables consumers to identify physician offices and medical device suppliers, is looking to expand nationwide after signing a deal with Cary-based Springboard Managed Hosting.

Maranda Bishop, manager of medical services for MedTree.com, says the company was founded by Phillip Driver, who serves as chief executive officer. Bishop said Driver is the sole financial backer of MedTree.com, which he started to fill a gap medical services.

“It’s been his baby for a little over a year now,” Bishop tells Local Tech Wire. “His background is in medical practice and physician practice, and he saw a need for this Web site. Nothing else was out there.”

MedTree.com’s interactive, Web-based content site provides consumers with access to local physician, specialist and medical device supplier Web sites. It generates revenue by providing syndicated Web site programs to participating physicians and suppliers, including Web site design, development and hosting, Web marketing, e-mail services and more.

“MedTree.com presents a sizeable hosting challenge … a consumer based portal with literally thousands of connected Web sites, full e-commerce capabilities and sophisticated database capabilities,” Springboard CEO Rich Lee said in a statement. “Their point and click interface enables physician practices of all sizes to build their local practice and consumers to self select a primary care physician in their local community.”

Bishop says MedTree.com currently employs six people in its Raleigh office and has no plans to hire more people. The service agreement with Springboard, she says, will allow Medtree.com to go with a more capable hosting company than staying in house, thus allowing the site to expand its reach.

“We’re hoping to go nationwide and have every hospital and doctor office in there,” says Bishop. “First in the Southeast, then the East coast and finally venture out west.”

Springboard will provide fully managed servers, enterprise backup, managed security and comprehensive around-the-clock monitoring and management of MedTree.com’s client roster of physicians and medical device suppliers, MedTree says.

“It’s all about connecting consumers searching for superior medical services with the local network of medical practices in a dynamic, interactive environment,” Driver said in a statement.

Springboard’ current client roster includes over 130 Internet enabled North Carolina-based companies.
