Expression Analysis (EA), a full-service microarray genetics testing and analysis organization, says it has strengthened its statistical analysis capabilities with the addition of Wendell Jones, Ph.D., a senior research statistician.

Jones will support the company’s bioinformatics and analysis division, EA says, providing clients with customized statistical planning and analysis to help them leverage gene expression data for their research, discovery, and drug development and approval processes.

“Because new microarray technology creates a tremendous amount of data and our list of clients is growing rapidly, we needed someone with the statistical expertise to design and implement data analysis strategies that free our clients to focus on the results of their expression studies,” Steven Casey, EA’s chief operating officer and co-founder, said in a statement. “Dr. Jones can provide insights on computational approaches and statistical interpretations of the data to help our clients make the most of this technology and their experiments.”

Jones has more than 14 years experience performing research and statistical analysis in leading technology companies. He previously worked as a senior software reliability engineer for IBM. Before that, he was the manager of research and technology at Nortel Networks. Jones holds a Ph.D. in mathematical sciences from Clemson University and has extensive skills in probability, statistics and statistical methodologies in technology-related reliability tests.

EA provides clients with the genomic processing and data analysis services using Affymetrix GeneChip microarray technology. This technology applies the principles of semiconductor technology to the life sciences, making it possible to qualitatively and quantitatively measure gene expression levels in a number of biologically relevant organisms, quickly and with more reliable results, the company says.
