Oculan Corporation has named John Beletic, an experienced chief executive of several technology companies, as its executive chairman of the board.

Over the past 16 years, Beletic has served as chief executive officer of Weblink Wireless, Pagemart Wireless and Tigon Voice Messaging Network, and is currently executive chairman of Scale Eight, an emerging storage technology company. Beletic’s experience in private equities includes previous position as a venture partner at Morgan Stanley Venture Partners, and currently as a venture partner at Oak Investment Partners. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Xavier University and a Masters of Business Administration from Harvard University.

“As Oculan enters its next phase of strategic growth, we are very excited that someone of John’s stature, intellect, and experience has chosen to lead our executive team,” President and CEO Steve Giles said in a statement. “Oculan is poised to rapidly expand its customer base and market share, and John is the perfect choice to ensure that we successfully meet the operational challenges that such growth will present.”

Beletic’s appointment follows on the heels of Oculan’s recent announcement that it had closed a $5 million round of Series C financing from its investor group led by Soros Private Equity Partners.

The Series C funding enables the continued expansion of Oculan’s sales, business development, technical support and marketing operations, the company says. Launched in July 2001, Raleigh-based Oculan has developed a channel of nearly 150 resellers using a channel strategy and appliance-based network management technology that enables organizations of all sizes to manage their networks.
