CHAPEL HILL, N.C. … Clinical research organization Health Decisions will offer technology produced by Mi-Co for the wireless capture and storage of data to its pharmaceutical customers.
The Mi-Forms platform allows physicians to use a special pen on paper to record the results of clinical trials, and the data is recorded on a nearby PDA for later usage. The system reduces data entry time by 68 percent, according to Health Decisions.
“Despite recent efforts at electronic data collection in the industry, an ongoing difficulty continues to be collecting data in a way that does not interfere with patient interviews,” Health Decisions President and Chief Executive Michael Rosenberg said in a statement. “The Mi-Co approach combines the ease of dealing with paper with the ability to immediately process and transmit data as they are collected from patients. The resulting hybrid system is considerably easier than either paper or electronic systems and has not been offered before in this industry.”
Mi-Co, which is based in Research Triangle Park, N.C., is targeting the Mi-Forms technology at the health care, insurance, public safety and field service markets in addition to CROs.
“Our research indicates that new tools, especially technology tools, may be misused because they are overly complex,” Mi-Co President Jim Clary said. “Our product, which is basically a clipboard and a piece of paper, can be used by everyone in the drug development industry.”
